Your ship docks in Falmouth, Jamaica for the day — so how do you make the most of it? Falmouth is one of the island's best cruise ports because it puts you within easy reach of waterfalls, glowing lagoons, jungle rivers and reggae history. This guide breaks down the eight best excursions from the Falmouth Cruise Port, what each one costs, how long it takes, and who it's best for — so you can pick the right adventure and still make it back to your ship on time.

The 8 best Falmouth excursions at a glance

1. Dunn's River Falls

Dunn's River Falls is Jamaica's most famous natural attraction, and for good reason. You climb a 600-foot cascading waterfall that flows in terraces right down to the Caribbean Sea, holding hands in a human chain with your guide leading the way. It's about a 60-90 minute drive from Falmouth toward Ocho Rios, and it's the single most popular excursion cruise passengers ask us for.

It's suitable for families and first-timers — there are exit points along the climb, and non-climbers can take the stairs alongside. Bring water shoes for grip and a waterproof case for your phone.

2. Blue Hole / Secret Falls

If you want something more off-the-beaten-path than Dunn's River, the Blue Hole (also called Secret Falls) is the answer. Tucked into the jungle near Ocho Rios, it's a series of crystal-clear turquoise pools with cliff jumps, rope swings and hidden waterfalls. It's more adventurous and far less crowded — a favourite for couples and thrill-seekers.

Cliff jumping is completely optional; you can also just swim in the pools and take in the scenery. Water shoes are strongly recommended here too.

3. Luminous Lagoon

Falmouth is home to the brightest bioluminescent lagoon on Earth — one of only four glowing lagoons in the world. After dark, microscopic organisms light up the water in an electric blue-green glow whenever it's disturbed. You board a boat, glide out, and can even jump in and swim as the water lights up around you.

Because it's a night activity (boats leave around 7pm), it's best for guests staying overnight or on ships that stay in port late. If your schedule allows it, this is a genuinely once-in-a-lifetime experience.

4. Martha Brae Bamboo Rafting

For a slower, more romantic pace, the Martha Brae River is just minutes from Falmouth. You glide down a peaceful 3-mile stretch of river on a hand-poled bamboo raft, with a captain who shares local stories and folklore along the way. You stay dry, sit back, and soak in the jungle scenery — perfect for couples or anyone who wants to relax rather than get an adrenaline rush.

You'll snorkel over reefs, dance on deck, and enjoy three hours on the water. Choose the shared cruise to meet other travellers, or book a private charter for your whole group.

6. Bob Marley Nine Mile Tour

Reggae fans shouldn't miss the pilgrimage to Nine Mile, the mountain village where Bob Marley was born and laid to rest. You'll see his childhood home, the famous "meditation rock," and his mausoleum, all guided by a local Rastafarian who brings the history to life. It's a deeper cultural experience and a scenic drive into the real Jamaican countryside.
